Our Winter Mini Vacation at Montebello, Quebec
Why escape the cold when you can enjoy the wintery views?
Usually, our family’s annual winter vacations consist of sunny getaways to beach-type destinations. With travelling being a little different lately, we decided to turn to our local, Canadian favourite: Montebello, Quebec.
Why Montebello, Quebec Makes For a Fantastic Vacation Destination
My husband and I were discussing a winter mini vacation for quite some time. We knew we didn’t want to go far, but we also knew that we needed a little escape. So naturally, Montebello was our answer. Since we live on the outskirts of Montreal, a road trip to the gorgeous Quebec municipality wouldn’t take long (only about 2 hours!).
If you’re a frequent reader of this blog, then you’d know how much we adore Montebello – especially staying at Fairmont le Château Montebello (our family’s Montebello photo album is up here!).
These are a few reasons why we choose Montebello, Quebec as our top road trip destination:
- Not too far from where we live (Suburbs of Montreal!)
- We always stay at Fairmont le Chateau Montebello, and it’s absolutely stunning + there’s always something to do
- Our kids adore Parc Omega (more on that below!)
Double Celebration
This year’s winter trip to Montebello also doubled as a double celebration (yes, you read that right!). Our sons’ birthdays are only 5 days apart, and since we weren’t throwing any birthday parties, we figure a trip to their favourite hotel would be the best way to make up for it.
Of course, Fairmont Montebello made their birthdays extra special!
Winter Escape at Fairmont Le Château Montebello
Fairmont le Château Montebello is the best Canadian resort to visit. Anyone who asks me, “I’d love to visit Quebec – something family-friendly with lots to do!” then Fairmont Montebello is my only answer. There’s a reason why my oldest constantly says, “It’s my favourite hotel!”
Fairmont Montebello has a little something for everyone. Upon check-in, their incredible staff will walk you through the resort’s current activities and events. Instantly, you’ll see that its property is ginormous!

Talk about all seasons! There’s always something happening at Fairmont le Château Montebello (that’s why we go all year!). Their activities change depending on the season, so there’s always something to do!
Our Winter Mini Vacation Staying at Fairmont le Château Montebello
The weekend we visited was incredibly chilly outside. So you know what we did? We stayed in! Oh, and was it ever so charming! Between their gorgeous lobby (with a huge, central fireplace) to their newly renovated rooms, our trip was incredibly cozy and cabin-chic. We spoiled ourselves with tons of room service and enjoyed each other’s company.
Parc Omega
Parc Omega is a top destination at Montebello, Quebec. This safari park features a gorgeous drive-through experience, where you can get up close with some of North America’s most gorgeous animals.
The kids love the fact that we can purchase carrots to feed to their furry friends!
Normally, our family visits Parc Omega in the summer, but this year we were inclined to visit during our winter mini vacation. You know what? Best. Decision. EVER! The winter scenery at Parc Omega is breathtaking – take a look at the photos and see for yourselves!
Parc Omega also has walking trails and picnic areas. It is definitely a must-visit! They’re best known for their Wolf Cabins: a once-in-a-lifetime experience where you stay in their most luxurious cabin, in the heart of the forest.
A Winter Mini Vacation We’ll Never Forget
Sure, birthday celebrations were a little different this year. However, our winter mini vacation made it unforgettable – and for that, we are extremely grateful! Our home away from home, Fairmont le Château Montebello, will always be a top choice for our family’s getaways up north. And of course, our kids are begging to know when we’ll be going back to their favourite hotel and to Parc Omega!
