Today, we’ll take a look at the beginning of my Invisalign journey with Dr. Thu Nguyen, as I navigate orthodontics in my thirties.
When I was a little girl, my teeth were horrible. They were crooked, buck, and I had a huge underbite. As soon as my “adult teeth” grew in, they grew in terribly – so I was facing huge self-esteem issues at a young age.

I remember seeing my sister coming home with her braces removed, and I was so jealous. Her teeth looked impeccable. My parents reassured me that I’d be getting mine as well. I was still so young (my sister is 9 years older than me), and we were just waiting for the ortho’s okay to get my braces on me!
I didn’t wait much longer: within that year (I was only 10 years old), I was a full-on metal mouth.
Do Teeth Move As We Age?
Yes, it is normal for our teeth to shift over the years – even if we’ve had past dental work.
I noticed my teeth shifting throughout my late 20s, especially after having my first-born. I wanted that to change: and luckily, I crossed paths with the amazing Dr. Nguyen.

Is Invisalign Worth It? The Benefits of Invisalign and My Invisalign Journey (So Far)
When people ask me if Invisalign is worth it, the answer is simple: Yes. One hundred times yes.
As someone with experience with traditional metal braces, removable retainers, and permanent wire retainers, I have to say that Invisalign is hands-down, my favorite form of orthodontics. Here are a few reasons why:
There Are No Limitations To What You Can Eat
Because Invisalign is removable, you can eat anything your heart desires – and this means EVERYTHING for a foodie like me!
Maintenance Is Easy
Maintaining and cleaning your Invisalign trays is very simple. Not to mention, maintenance of your teeth’s health is super simple too. The removable aspect to Invisalign is a game-changer. When I had braces, I always found it daunting to floss because it always took extra steps.
Progress Is Satisfying
If you’re a Type A personality like me, then I know you’re competitive and you LOVE seeing progress. With Invisalign, “graduating” from tray set to tray set is incredibly satisfying! I always love receiving the great news from Dr. Nguyen when she tells me that my teeth are tracking and progressing as planned.
More Comfortable
Wearing braces for nearly four years was absolutely brutal. I remember feeling extremely uncomfortable every time they’d tighten my braces every six weeks. I also remember the feeling of the irritating brackets that would rub on my cheeks, as well as the wires that would jut out.
Invisalign has been SO much more comfortable than braces, and for that I am extremely grateful.
